Attorney, insurance executive get Red Jacket Awards

Buffalo attorney James L. Magavern and insurance agency executive Edward F. Walsh Jr. have been named the recipients of the 2013 Red Jacket Awards, given by the Buffalo History Museum to community leaders devoted to civic progress.

The awards, based on a medal given by President George Washington to Seneca leader Red Jacket in 1792, will be presented at the annual Red Jacket Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 in the History Museum.

During the ceremonies, Madeline Davis and Edwin A. Mirand will receive the Owen B. Augspurger Award, which recognizes local historians devoted to the preservation of Erie County heritage. The Hull House will receive the Daniel B. Niederlander Award for its outstanding work as a historical organization.
