HANOVER – The town will stop providing code enforcement service to the villages of Silver Creek and Forestville, Town Board members decided Monday.
Town Supervisor Todd Johnson introduced the resolution at the regular board meeting, and members gave their unanimous support to the plan. Johnson said the town’s code enforcement officer, Tom Gould, has many new issues in the town, and he and the board decided that the focus should be on Hanover. Neither village contributes to the cost of the position. The only revenue is through building-permit fees that are returned to the town.
Johnson said Gould had been spending about 40 percent of his time in the Village of Silver Creek. He said the change would not reduce Gould’s hours but give him an opportunity to focus on town projects.
Silver Creek Trustee Nick Piccolo attended the meeting and said he knew that issues in the village occupied a large portion of Gould’s schedule. He said he was not sure which direction the village would take – to hire or contract out for services.
“We won’t leave either village in a lurch,” Johnson said. He said town officials had been discusssing the matter for the past year.

• The board agreed to bring back retired Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Harold Anger to work as clerk for the sewer treatment plant improvement project. Anger is scheduled to work about 20 hours each week and will receive $29,995 as a salary for the position.
• A public hearing on a proposed change for water rules and regulations will be held at the Feb. 11 board meeting. The charge would allow polyethylene piping.
• An extended van for the Water Department was approved for purchase at $22,025 from Vision Ford of Rochester.
