A motorist was killed Thursday when he was struck by a tractor trailer in the middle lane of the Thruway near the William Street exit in Cheektowaga about 4;10 p.m, according to state police.
The victim had pulled over his disabled vehicle on the shoulder of the road and was walking across the busy highway to try to get help when he was struck.
After closing two lanes of the three-lane highway to investigate the accident, troopers detoured traffic around the scene.
Both lanes were reopened at 7:20 p.m.
State police had yet to release the name of the victim late Thursday. Troopers also asked anyone with information about the accident or who may have witnessed it to contact them at 716-935-6570.
