The Holland community pool reopened Monday after an investigation determined there was no risk of fire.
The facility, located in the former Holland Middle School, had been closed for almost two weeks after local fire officials were called to investigate a “burning” smell in the area.
Superintendent Cathy Fabiatos said a pool maintenance contractor inspected the site last Thursday in an attempt to determine the source of the unusual odor, which lingered throughout the week. Officials originally suspected the HVAC system, which pumps air into the pool area.
But officials said Tuesday that after a thorough investigation, there appeared to be no hazard and reopened the pool.
Two weeks ago, counselors from a summer recreation program being held in the building noticed he burning smell and alerted school officials, who immediately evacuated the building and called the fire department.
The pool, opened in 1995, is the only pool in the school district and also serves the community.
