In the summer of 2011, Jimmy Janowski and his collaborators at Buffalo United Artists reached a level of camp absurdity that, at the time, seemed like it couldn’t be topped. Janowski’s original play “The Birds Attack,” based loosely on Alfred Hitchcock’s famous 1963 film “The Birds,” brimmed with over-the-top gimmicks, exaggerated dialogue, raunchy humor and the inimitable facial expressions and turns of phrase delivered by Janowski in immaculate, Tippi Hedren-esque drag.
Then in 2012, when BUA mounted an adaptation of “Mommie Dearest” called “Mommie Queerest” and followed that up this year with a cheeky take on “L’Imitation of Life,” the campy ante was upped. Even so, it’s sometimes worthwhile to revisit past successes, which the company is doing with a brief rerun of “The Birds Attack.”
In addition to Janowski, the show features Bebe Bvlgari, Timothy Patrick Finnegan, Eric Rawski, Luis Rodriguez, Michael Seitz and Christopher Standart. Todd Warfield returns to direct.
The show opens at 8 p.m. Saturday in Buffalo United Artists Theatre (119 Chippewa St.) and runs through Sept. 1. Tickets are $15 to $25, with more information at 886-9239 or www.buffalobua.org.
