DUNKIRK – The City of Dunkirk’s Drug Court program honored Fredonia State College for contributing more than 50 interns to help out with its program.
At the open house and graduation ceremony Thursday in City Court, Judge Walter F. Drag presented a certificate to Virginia Horvath, president of the college.
Horvath attended the ceremony with members of her staff and two interns who are currently working with the program. She thanked the judge and staff for having trust in the internship program and allowing students to gain practical knowledge through participation.
She also thanked the Drug Court graduates for their efforts in the community and their motivation to be active in their city.
Drag said one of the first interns was Lee Ann Lazarony, who now works as the treatment court coordinator.
The Drug Court program celebrated the graduation of five people who have completed a rigorous program of counseling, community service and other requirements. Each of the five spoke about the barriers they have encountered in their road to recovery.
The group also heard from Josie Christopher, who coordinates the Circle of Love Wellness Program.
Tom Narraway, a Chautauqua County probation officer, was given a “beacon of hope” award for his participation with Drug Court candidates.
