The National Weather Service was urging people to take cover in parts of Erie County as a strong line of thunderstorms moved into the area late this afternoon.
The storms are capable of producing very heavy rain, and there have been reports of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, officials said.
The storm was reported near Kenmore at about 4:30 p.m. and was moving east toward Cheektowaga, Williamsville, Depew, Lancaster and Elma. It was also expected to affect parts of Niagara and Wyoming counties.
