Buffalo, Pittsburgh artists collaborate on exchange exhibition

In March, Buffalo Arts Studio and Pittsburgh’s Brew House Association launched a collaborative project meant to establish an artistic dialogue between two artsy Rust Belt cities. On two separate occasions, artists from Buffalo Arts Studio traveled to the Steel City to explore its booming visual arts culture and to take part in a curated exhibition in the Brew House Association’s home in the former Duquesne Brewing facility.

Now it’s time for Buffalo Arts Studio to return the favor. The local arts collaborative in the Tri-Main Center (2495 Main St.) will host an exhibition by Pittsburgh artists opening at 7 p.m. Saturday. The show, “40.4406° N, 79.9961° W,” is named for the latitude and longitude of the Pittsburgh arts center. It will feature paintings and sculptures by the Brew House Association’s seven resident artists.

“It was a really great opportunity for our artists to get the chance to show in another city. It increases their audience base,” said BAS director Cori Wolff. “It was kind of like a bonding experience for our artists.” Wolff said she hopes the same will be true of the Pittsburgh artists’ experience in Buffalo.
