Patients, staff and caregivers now have a new place to buy refreshments at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Dunkin’ Donuts cut the ribbon on a new full-service kiosk in the hospital’s lobby at Elm and Carlton streets Tuesday. It replaces a smaller, independently owned coffee kiosk.
It’s the 24th Dunkin’ Donuts location in the region for franchisees at Northern Star Restaurant Management, which acquired 21 locations in December 2010.
“Now we’re moving into our development phase,” said Douglas W. Spolyar, chief operating officer at Northern Star.
The group opened a location inside a Hamburg Kwik Fill gas station last week and will open a free-standing location May 27 in Lockport. It also just broke ground on a location off the Irving and Silver Creek exit of the Thruway on Route 5. Its first new location opened in August in the Town of Tonawanda’s Colvin-Eggert Plaza.
Western New York currently has 44 Dunkin’ Donuts franchises, all of which recently partnered with Roswell Park to raise $1 million over the next five years. Roughly $750,000 is expected to be raised through the sale of popular “Cups for Roswell” coupon books, through which Dunkin’ Donuts will donate about 1.85 million cups of coffee. Franchisees will donate another $250,000 in coffee and baked goods to fundraising events and activities to benefit Roswell Park.
The money will go toward funding the second phase of Roswell Park’s new Clinical Sciences Center, which will boast a new mammography center, chemotherapy-infusion clinic and adolescent young adult clinic, and toward funding promising early stage science and clinical programs to find new treatments and cures for cancer.
“It will be an incredible addition,” said Donald L. Trump, president and CEO of Roswell Park.
