One man was shot when gunmen forced their way into a University District home over the weekend, Buffalo police said.

A similar robbery attempt happened more than an hour later on the other side of the city, but it was unclear if the two incidents were related.

Ajamu Kafele, no age available, of Comstock Avenue, was shot in the finger, upper left shoulder and the lower abdomen, police said. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday, a hospital official said.

Kafele told police that two young men knocked on his door just after 10 p.m. Friday. The two tried to force their way in, but Kafele pushed them out of the house and started fighting with them, according to police reports.

At one point, one of the attackers put a gun to Kafele’s head and pulled the trigger.

The gun jammed.

The two intruders demanded money and rummaged through his belongings before leaving the scene.

More than an hour later, at 11:20 p.m., a man knocked on the door of a Breckenridge Street residence in the Grant-Ferry neighborhood.

When the occupant opened the door, the man pulled out a shotgun, police said. A struggle ensued before the gunman got into the house, threatened the two women inside and demanded money.

The gunman searched the house, then left without taking anything.
