Buffalo is one of 10 cities across the nation selected to take part in Play Streets, a program to combat child obesity supported by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, the BlueCross BlueShield Association and the Partnership for a Healthier America.

The program, brought here through the efforts of Go Bike Buffalo, encourages people to walk and ride bikes to the events. The five sessions, which will run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., are free and open to the public. They will include dancing, sports and games, creative activities, live performances and information about eating healthy, gardening and urban farming.

Play Street dates include May 5 in the Promise Neighborhood (Manhattan Street, Mercer Avenue and Hill Street), June 2 in the Masten District (Wohlers and Northland avenues), July 7 on Seneca Street in the Seneca-Babcock area (between Peabody Street and Oakdale Place), Aug. 4 in Allentown (Allen Street) and Sept. 1 on the West Side (Rees Street and the Richardson Complex).
