The Food Bank of Western New York has been selected to receive a $3,000 grant through the Restaurant Community Grants program from the Darden Foundation, the charitable branch of Darden Restaurants Inc.
The grants program allows each of the Darden company’s restaurants to award $1,000 to support community programs. The local grants were awarded from the Olive Garden restaurant on Maple Road, Amherst, and the Red Lobster restaurants on Maple Road, Amherst, and at the McKinley Mall, Blasdell.
The donation will support the Food Bank’s BackPack Program, which provides backpacks of food to children who qualify for free or subsidized school lunches. The backpacks are given out on Fridays or before holidays during the school year to help feed the youngsters when schools are closed.
