Actor to screen movie, speaker at scholarship ball.

tagThe Buffalo Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will host the 19th annual Daniel R. Acker Scholarship Ball at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, 2 Fountain Plaza.

Actor and filmmaker John Marshall Jones was be the keynote speaker for the event. Marshall, who was a featured actor in the late 1990s WB network sitcom “Smart Guy,” also will preside over a free screening of a 2009 movie he directed, “The Guest at Central Park West,” about two Harvard University graduates who share a secret. The screening will take place at 1 p.m. Friday in the Frank E. Merriweather Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave.

The Daniel R. Acker Scholarship was named in honor of the longtime president of the Buffalo Branch NAACP. Acker died in 1997. The scholarships are awarded to qualifying local high school seniors who will be enrolled in a four-year college or university in the fall.
