LOCKPORT – A North Tonawanda company that produces clothing emblazoned with promotional designs is expected to receive an allocation of low-cost electricity from Niagara County.
Marketing Imprints, headquartered on Division Street, received approval from a County Legislature committee Tuesday for 150 kilowatts of discount electricity through the county’s Empower Niagara program.
Economic Development Commissioner Samuel M. Ferraro said the company plans to purchase the former Gardei Printing plant at 525 Wheatfield St. and expand into it with two new screen printing machines, with the capacity to produce 3 million prints per year. Lasers will be used to imprint the decorations, such as logos.
Marketing Imprints, which will receive the power under the name of 525 Wheat LLC, a real estate holding company, plans to create five new jobs to add to the 15 people it already employs, Ferraro said.
The firm will put $945,000 into the acquisition, equipping and renovation of the vacant building. The facility is to be completed by l 2014.
The sale of the electricity will net the county $46,580 in revenue.
Tuesday’s unanimous vote by the Administration Committee sends the allocation to the full Legislature for action next Tuesday.
The committee also accepted a $300,000 grant from Empire State Development to be used toward the county’s efforts to protect the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station from cutbacks or closure.
The terms of the grant call for the county to be reimbursed after it spends its own money.
